Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) is accepting applications for executive director.
Tim Young of Fredericksburg and Stephanie Fulmer of Arlington were the fastest men and women’s runners in the Marine Corps Historic Half on May 18, according to the unofficial results posted Sunday afternoon.
The 27-year-old Young ran a 4:58 mile pace to finish the 13.1 miles in 1:05:09.
Fulmer, 24, ran a 6:30 mile pace to finish in 1:25:18.

Two course records were set Sunday morning as the second-largest field of finishers completed the Marine Corps Historic Half in Fredericksburg.
Historic Half record holder and Fredericksburg resident Tim Young, 27, crossed the finish in 1:05:09, breaking his own course record of 1:06:57.
Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge will host its annual Memorial Day March beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2014. The event begins with a short ceremony at the Masonic Cemetery, located at George and Charles Streets in downtown Fredericksburg.

The National Park Service will host the 19th annual Fredericksburg National Cemetery Luminary on Saturday, May 24, 2014.
A luminary will be lit for each of the 15,300 soldiers buried there.
The Fredericksburg National Cemetery Luminary is open to the public 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. In the event of rain, the event will be held on Sunday, May 25.

Last week, I had the pleasure to work with a local Veteran non-profit group to help someone in need. Their story touched my heart. He was injured by an IED while serving in the Army in Afghanistan. After being injured, the family made a quick move into our area to be near the Richmond VA Hospital, to get help for his severe brain trauma.

The City of Fredericksburg Police Department has joined a growing number of agencies across the country issuing body cameras to their officers.
Fredericksburg is using the Axon Flex camera by Taser International. The camera, designed to capture video and audio of an officer’s actions and perspective during an investigation or enforcement encounter, can be worn attached to a lapel or sunglasses.

A sea of 15,300 luminaria glowed in Fredericksburg National Cemetery from 8 – 11 p.m. May 24 for the 19th annual Memorial Day Saturday ceremony.
The tradition began in 1995, when representatives of local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts presented to National Park Service staff the idea of starting an annual luminaria program to honor United States soldiers who had died in service to their county.
