Call for artists

The Fredericksburg Arts Commission is seeking artists for a mural project at the Dorothy Hart Community Center. This will be the first in a series of new public art projects we plan to commission in the coming years.
The mural wall is approximately 4 feet tall by 32 feet wide, and the selected artist will receive a $4,000 stipend, which covers labor and supplies.
The call is open to artists 18 and older, and the selected artist will be chosen through a multi-tiered review process led by the Fredericksburg Arts Commission’s Public Art Committee.

The 2025 Candlelight Tour highlights the sites and stories of 18th-century Fredericksburg, featuring Mary Washington’s House, Fielding Lewis’s 1749 store, the James Monroe Museum, St. George’s Episcopal Church and cemetery, the 1785 silversmith’s house—now home to the Fredericksburg Creative Center for the Arts–and the circa-1770 Richard Johnston Inn.
