With the federal government shutdown heading into its fourth week and SNAP benefits set to expire, the City Council will consider appropriating an additional $55,640 for “emergency support.” … Councilors will also finalize their legislative agenda, a wish list of sorts with bills that the city supports —and in some cases — is actively lobbying for. A meeting with the city’s local delegation is tentatively scheduled for November, following the election… Earlier in Tuesday’s meeting, the council will recognize three individuals: Janice Davies, Lawrence A. Davies, and Thomas Williams in a wall of honor ceremony.

The board is beginning the process of preparing for the fiscal year 2027 budget season. In FY26, the board prioritized attacking a nearly $47 million funding gap incrementally with the board of supervisors. The division received a boost of $11.7 million in funding last fiscal year and is aiming to take another step forward in dwindling the gap.

The board will hold a joint work session with the planning commission to discuss data center design standards in relation to potential regulations of the industry as a by-right use versus the requirement of a special use permit and appropriate development standards. The primary topic of discussion is the required setback for the structures. The board seemingly settled on 1,000-foot setbacks, but some members had a change of heart. Stafford’s board of supervisors voted last week to approve 750-foot setbacks.
