Friends of the Rappahannock held their annual spring river clean-up on April 26. Volunteers of all ages met in Old Mill Park for their assignments, then dispersed to clean trash from the Rappahannock River and nearby lands and streams. Friends of the Rappahannock provided supplies and lunch.
Friends of the Rappahannock Director John Tippett Stepping Down
Friends of the Rappahannock press release:
John Tippett, long time director of Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR), is stepping down from his position.
Tippett, who has lead the river advocacy group since 1995, has been in a multiyear battle with neurologic Lyme disease. He has decided to step away from his executive director duties to focus on finding effective treatment.

Join University of Mary Washington Biology professors Joella Killian and Michael Killian exploring the river trails and canal path along the Rappahannock River from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Saturday, April 19.
Hunter’s Island Hike

Explore the legacy of Hunter’s Island in the Rappahannock River from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. April 12. The short float to the island and the day’s hike will be led by the Friends of the Rappahannock and the island’s owner Mary Ellen Wheeler, local architect and history enthusiast.
Eagle Scout candidate Devin Hudson of Troop 1777 recently cleared the two-mile trail on Hunter’s Island in preparation for the trip.
Wild & Scenic Film Festival Hosted in Fredericksburg

Wild & Scenic Film Festival will make a stop in Fredericksburg, thanks to the Friends of the Rappahannock.
The festival will be held Saturday, March 29, at Paragon Village 12, 51 Towne Centre Blvd., Fredericksburg. Doors open at 8 a.m. The films begin at 8:50 a.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
Register for the Spring Rappahannock River Clean-Up

Join the Friends of the Rappahannock for their 2014 Spring River Clean-Up from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.
The annual family event begins in Old Mill Park, 2410 Caroline St, Fredericksburg. From there, volunteers disperse to clean trash from the Rappahannock River and nearby lands and streams. The Friends of the Rappahannock provides supplies, site map and lunch.
