Susan Larson, publisher of Fredericksburg Today online news, will serve as an interim host of “Town Talk,” the 8 – 9 a.m. Monday through Friday local 1230 AM WFVA News Talk program featuring business owners, nonprofit leaders and political figures from the Fredericksburg region.

Larson is filling-in while WFVA hires a full-time news director and show host. Ted Schubel, who served in that capacity for more than 10 years, is now serving as Director of Communications for the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce.

During her first week — March 16 – 20, 2015 — Larson will welcome the following guests to the show.

Monday, March 16
Friends of the Rappahannock Community Conservationist Woodie Walker and Education Coordinator Lowery Pemberton will share the nonprofit group’s events and projects, including the upcoming Wild and Scenic Film Festival, summer education programs, their Eagle Cam Fundraiser and their participation in The Community Give.

Tuesday, March 17
Mike and Bernadette Esler, owners of Irish Eyes at 725 Caroline St. in downtown Fredericksburg, will lead us in a celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The Esler’s travel back home to Ireland each year to select unique treasures for their shop from Ireland’s leading artists and craftspeople. Join our conversation about their shop and about the traditions surrounding St. Patrick’s Day.

Wednesday, March 18
Stafford County Tourism Manager M. C. Moncure will tell us about the special events this spring in Stafford County. Have your calendar ready.

Thursday, March 19
Andy Lynn of Roxbury Farm & Garden Center at 601 Lafayette Blvd. in Fredericksburg will help us kick-off spring gardening. Do you have a question for Andy? Send it to Susan Larson at [email protected], and she’ll try to ask it on-air

Friday, March 20
Earlier this winter, people were hanging plastic bags of items for the homeless on a chain-link fence in downtown Fredericksburg. A discussion ensured on the Fredericksburg Today Facebook page for other ways to be of assistance to the homeless in our area. Meghann Cotter, executive servant-leader of Micah Ecumenical Ministries, will discuss this with us. We’ll also talk about the City of Fredericksburg’s sudden proposal to create a new definition of “social service delivery” within the Unified Development Ordinance, requiring groups providing services to people in need to purchase a special use permit.
