Fredericksburg Region Traffic Alerts August 14 – 20

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) work zones in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline and King George for the week of August 14 – 20, 2016.

City of Fredericksburg
Interstate 95
(New) This week motorists can expect delays on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound at mile marker 131 located near Fredericksburg. On the evenings of Aug. 15 − 18 crews will lift concrete beams into place at the site of a new Fall Hill Avenue overpass located between I-95 Exit 130/Route 3 at Fredericksburg and Exit 133/Route 17 in Stafford County. Virginia State Police will be assisting with traffic control in the work zone.
The following lane closure schedule is planned:
I-95 southbound (Monday, Aug. 15 − Wednesday, Aug. 17)
· Single lane closure at 9:30 p.m.
· Double lane closure at 10 p.m.
· Between midnight and 3 a.m. all traffic will be stopped several times for approximately 20 minutes each while crews lift concrete beams over the interstate.
· All lanes re-open to traffic by 5 a.m.
I-95 northbound (Thursday, Aug. 18)
· Single lane closure at 9:30 p.m.
· Double lane closure at 10 p.m.
· Between midnight and 3 a.m. all traffic will be stopped several times for approximately 20 minutes each while crews lift concrete beams over the interstate.
· All lanes re-open to traffic by 5 a.m.

Fall Hill Avenue
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal for construction activity. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard for construction activity. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Stafford County
Route 17
Three through travel lanes are now open on Route 17 northbound and southbound between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway. Construction activities associated with the final phase of the Route 17 widening project will continue this week with minimal impact to traffic.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. One lane will be closed intermittently on Route 610 eastbound and westbound at Onville Road. Motorists may periodically encounter brief delays during the overnight hours in this work zone. Crews are placing sewer lines in connection with the Route 610/Onville Road intersection improvement project.

Route 1001 (Melcher Drive)
(Update) Monday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic reduced to one lane for pavement milling. Motorists should follow direction from flagging crew in the work zone.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will be performing routine maintenance activities in the following locations:
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – mowing
Route 17 (Warrenton Road) – mowing
Route 218 (White Oak Road) – mowing
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) – patching
Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) – mowing
Route 608 (Brooke Road) – patching
Route 628 (Winding Creek Road) – patching
Route 648 (Shelton Shop Road) – patching
Route 603 (Cassion Road) – shoulder work
Route 601 (Hollywood Farm Road) – shoulder work
Route 752 (Richards Ferry Road) – brush cutting
Route 605 (New Hope Church Road) – machine roadway

Spotsylvania County
Interstate 95 Bridge Washing
(New) Wednesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. A mobile bridge washing operation will be underway this week on I-95 northbound and southbound between mile marker 118 near Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg) and mile marker 126 located near Exit 126 (Route 1/Spotsylvania). Motorists can expect a single lane and shoulder closure in this mobile work zone.

Spotsylvania Parkway at Latitude Street
(New) The recently installed traffic signal located at the intersection of Spotsylvania Parkway and Latitude Street will be activated on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at approximately 9 a.m. The signal will operate in flash mode initially and will go into full color operation at approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18. Motorists should be alert to the new traffic pattern at the intersection located halfway between Route 1 and the bridge over Interstate 95 near Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.

Route 17
(New) Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be conducting a bridge inspection on Route 17 between Benchmark Road and Jim Morris Road. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.

Route 627 (Gordon Road)
(Update) Sunday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will be milling and paving on Route 627 (Gordon Road) from Route 613 (Brock Road) to just north of Route 674 (Chancellor Road). Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. Expect delays and a rough driving surface in this area.

Saddlebrook Subdivison
(New) Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be working on the shoulders at various locations in the subdivision. Motorists should expect brief delays.

Route 620 (Harrison Road)
(Update) Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent flagging and single lane closures on Route 620 (Harrison Road). Motorists may periodically encounter brief delays in the overnight hours in this work zone. In addition, the shortened right turn lane from Route 1 southbound to Harrison Road westbound will remain in place this week. This work is in connection with the Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection improvement project.

Route 628 (Smith Station Road)
Monday − Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect lane closures and delays on Route 628 southbound between the CVS entrance and Courtland High School. Flaggers will be directing traffic in the work zone. This work is in connection with the Route 628 (Smith Station Road) turn lanes and signal modification project.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will be performing routine maintenance activities in the following locations:
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – mowing
Route 17 (Mills Drive) – brush cutting
Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – mowing
Route 616 (U.S. Ford Road) – patching
Route 620 (Harrison Road) – patching
Route 643 (Haleys Mill Road) – Rural Rustic Work
Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – mowing
Route 612 (Monrovia Road) – mowing
Route 607 (Guinea Station Road) – mowing
Route 634 (Flippo Drive) – mowing
Timbers Subdivision – drainage work
Rain Tree Subdivision – drainage work

Caroline County
Route 17
(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will continue trench work on Route 17 northbound and southbound from just north of Route 301 to just south of Route 675 (Hazelwood Lane). Motorists should expect alternating lane closures in the work zone.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will be performing routine maintenance activities in the following locations:
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – ditching
Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) – ditching
Route 633 (Nancy Wright Road) – mowing
Route 708 (Liberty Fork Road) – grading
Route 609 (Rozell Road) – brush cutting
Route 609 (Macedonia Road) – brush cutting

Caroline County/King George County
Route 301 Bridge over Rappahannock River
(Update) On Friday crews will perform a concrete pour in connection with the substructure repair on the Route 301 bridge over the Rappahannock River. A single lane closure will be in place on Route 301 southbound on the bridge and at the approaches to bridge. The lane closure will be in place from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. This work is in connection with the Route 301 Bridge Rehabilitation Project.
