R-Board: Recycling is an art

by | Mar 11, 2024 | ALLFFP, Arts and Entertainment, Environmental, Events, Schools & Education, Stafford

Artists are invited to create masterpieces with an unusual medium—trash.

The R-Board, the Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board, is partnering with Stafford County schools to host a 3-D art contest to highlight artistic sculptural creations made from litter. The contest encourages students to reuse, recycle, and repurpose things that would normally end up at a landfill into art works.

All Stafford students, grades kindergarten through 12, have until March 20 to submit their projects. The submissions will be on display at the Stafford County Fine Arts Festival at Brooke Point High School March 23 and 24.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each level: Elementary (K-5), Middle (6-8) and high (9-12). A community choice prize will also be awarded. A full list of guidelines can be found here.
