UPDATE: Body of missing woman at Lake Arrowhead recovered

by | Mar 11, 2024 | ALLFFP, Police and Fire, Stafford

The body of a woman who fell out of a kayak at Lake Arrowhead in Stafford County Sunday afternoon has been recovered.

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Ryan Wilbur said the medical examiner will examine the body, but at the time of recovery, there are “no signs of foul play.”

The name of the victim has not been released.

Stafford deputies responded to the lake at approximately 3:50 p.m. Sunday.  Authorities learned that two people were on the boat, including one who swam to shore to call for help.

Deputies with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and Stafford County Fire and Rescue personnel assisted in the search. Stafford deputies, detectives, K-9, and the dive team responded. The drone team was also contacted, but because of windy conditions, it was unable to conduct any flights, Wilbur said.

The search attempt continued until 10 p.m. Sunday when water conditions became too hazardous to continue and the search was postponed. The Stafford Sheriff’s Office and fire and rescue personnel reconvened Monday at 10 a.m.

The woman was described as being approximately 48 years old with red hair,  5-foot-6 and 175 pounds.

“We understand this is a devastating outcome for the victim’s family,” Wilbur said. “All of our hearts at the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office go out to them.”
