The principal at James Monroe High School spoke at Micah Ecumenical Ministries annual service to mark the passing of Dr. King. Marcus Petty asked for more community volunteers to get involved with students and school activities.

The service gave special honor to two local Drum Majors for Justice:
• Sonny Holmes, who has championed the story of 27 black students, who were not allowed to attend their graduation from Walker Grant High School in 1950 because of the Jim Crow South.
• Bill Botts, who has made it his life’s work to provide legal aid to the poor, immigrant, unhoused and otherwise marginalized neighbor.
