Since the school board initially approved the FY27 CIP budget, several projects have been modified because of updated timing or to better utilize CIP resources. Those projects include tennis court projects at Chancellor, Ni River, and Spotsylvania Middle schools, that will see a decrease in allocated funds of $200,000. A primary and secondary drainage field project was expedited into the FY26 budget to address imminent field failure. The asphalt resurfacing project at Spotswood Elementary was reduced by $300,000 as funds were repurposed for other immediate needs.

The board will hold a work session on its FY27 budget and CIP. The board voted recently to approve County Administrator Ed Petrovich’s recommended real estate tax rate of 77 cents per $100 of assessed value, which equates to an 8-cent increase from FY26 because of an increase in assessed property values. The advertised tax rates leaves the county school division facing a $5.8 million shortfall in local funding.
