The Fredericksburg Police Department recently announced Crystal Hill as its next deputy chief of police. According to a press release, the deputy chief selection process included a competitive statewide search to identify highly qualified candidates for this important leadership role.
The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police facilitated the assessment and interview process, with all applicants demonstrating strong qualifications and experience.
Hill stood out for her extensive knowledge, leadership abilities, and dedication to both the department and the Fredericksburg community. During the past four months, serving in an interim capacity, Hill demonstrated her ability to effectively lead while supporting the vision of the agency and helping move the department forward.
Hill began her career with the Fredericksburg Police Department in 2006 as a communications officer. Over the course of her 20-plus year career with the department, she has worked in three of the agency’s four divisions and has held every supervisory rank during her tenure.
She takes great pride in her commitment to both the department and the citizens of Fredericksburg. Hill’s career, the release stated, can be marked by the management and implementation of several large-scale projects for the agency such as the creation of the Law Enforcement Phlebotomy Program, the School Speed Camera installation safety initiative, and the Department of Motor Vehicle Traffic Services and Alcohol Grants.
Hill holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in criminal justice from Germanna Community College. In 2024, she completed the Leading, Educating, and Developing (LEAD) program through the University of Virginia, along with numerous additional leadership training courses.
She has also been selected to attend the FBI National Academy in the fall of 2026, a prestigious law enforcement leadership program attended by less than 1% of law enforcement professionals nationwide.
