Fredericksburg Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday in the 200 block of Ivanhoe Court.
According to a news release, police responded to a report of shots fired around 11 p.m. When the first officer arrived on the scene, they found a adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. Police identified the victim as Oscar Ruiz Mejia Jr., 19, of Fredericksburg.
Witnesses provided officers with a description of a single suspect who officers located nearby. Police detained Emmanuel Killeen, 24, of Fredericksburg, who they claim to have been in possession of two firearms.
According to police, Killeen is considered a person of interest in the homicide at this time. He has been charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Police say that their initial investigation indicated a verbal argument between the victim and someone else just prior to the shooting. Detectives continue to investigate and process evidence in this case. FPD has increased its patrol presence in the area.
