Division staff will present the FY27 budget as appropriated by the board of supervisors on June 9. Gov. Abigail Spanberger is reviewing a biennial budget passed by the General Assembly last week. Once Spanberger signs the budget bill, the school board will need to adopt a budget revision. The supervisors are anticipating revisiting the budget in September to adjust appropriations. Caroline’s operating budget is $65.3 million with $72.5 million in total expenditures.

The board is weighing a recommendation from the planning commission to adopt zoning ordinance amendments regulating energy and utility uses, particularly solar and battery storage facilities. County officials are attempting to adopt the ordinance amendments before Wednesday when a state law takes effect that will permit battery storage facilities by-right if they’re accompanying a solar project.
