Interstate 95 Northbound and Southbound

Exit 133 (Route 17) and Exit 130 (Route 3) Local and Through Lanes

Monday – Friday, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures on both local and through lanes at Fall Hill Avenue and Cowan Boulevard overpasses for routine bridge inspection.

Exit 143 (Garrisonville Road) On-Ramp and Off-Ramps

Monday – Friday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Mobile lane closures at the interchange on- and off-ramps. Mobile pavement marking.

Interstate 95 Northbound

Exit 118 (Thornburg) to Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)

Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m.- 4:30 a.m. Alternating lane closures between mile markers 121-123 for milling and paving mobile operation.

Exit 110 (Ladysmith Road)

Sunday – Friday, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Alternating lane closures with police directing traffic for milling and paving between mile markers 110-111. Starting Tuesday, May 21 through Friday, May 23, Ramp Closure. On and off ramps will be closed as crews mill and pave. During this time, northbound travelers seeking access to I-95 northbound will be detoured to travel on Route 1 to Exit 118 (Thornburg).

Interstate 95 Southbound

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton)

Monday – Friday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Single lane closure. Mobile pavement marking.

Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 118 (Thornburg)

Monday – Friday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Single lane closure for pavement marking work between mile markers 129-124.

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) Off-Ramp

Sunday – Saturday, 7 p.m.-10 a.m. Alternating single lane closures on the off-ramp to Route 1. Final construction activities to widen the ramp and build an additional right turn lane to Route 1 southbound.

Exit 118 (Thornburg) On and Off-Ramp Closures

Sunday – Tuesday, 11 p.m. – 4 a.m. On- and off-ramps will be closed during this time. Travelers should use exit 126 (Spotsylvania) or exit 110 (Ladysmith) in Caroline County to access I-95 southbound.

Bowling Green

Route 2 (Main Street)

24-hour road closure. Starting Monday, May 19, Route 2 (Main Street) will be closed to through traffic in the Town of Bowling Green between Milford/Chase Street and Courthouse Lane. Through traffic should follow posted detour signs to use East Broaddus Avenue and Route 207/301 as an alternate route. The road is closed for Town of Bowling Green utility work, under permit. Route 2 (Main Street) is anticipated to be closed through Monday, June 30. For updates and more information on this town work zone, visit the Town of Bowling Green website.

City of Fredericksburg

Bridgewater Street

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Alternating lane closures between Fall Hill Avenue and Wellford Street. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Alternating lane closures between Route 1 and Bridgewater Street. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.

Lafayette Boulevard

King George County

Route 3 (Kings Highway)

Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. Alternating lane closures for paving work between Route 607 (Port Conway Road) and the Stafford County line.

Route 602 (Chapel Green Road)

Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. Road resurfacing. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic between the Stafford County line and Fletchers Chapel Road.

Kitchen’s Point subdivision

Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. Road resurfacing. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone.

Monmouth Village subdivision

Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. Road resurfacing. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone.

Spotsylvania County

Route 1 at Route 606

Sunday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. and Monday – Thursday, 7:30 p.m.- 5 a.m. Milling, paving and overhead traffic signal work as part of final construction activities. Expect brief delays. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection with Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road.

Route 1 at Arcadia Road

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. All travel lanes will remain open, but the alignment of the Route 1 travel lanes has shifted slightly between Arcadia Road and Mudd Tavern Road for road improvement work connected with the Kalahari Resorts & Conventions development. Permit work. Construction will also be underway along the road shoulder.

Route 1 at Southpoint Parkway

Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m.-10 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. Alternating single lane closures on Route 1 between the I-95 southbound off-ramp and Southpoint Parkway. Final construction activities.

Route 2 (Tidewater Trail)

Monday – Friday, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Single lane closure between Benchmark Road and Pierson Drive. Installation of water main under permit.

Route 17 (Mills Drive)

Tuesday – Thursday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Right lane closure at I-95 overpass for guardrail repair.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road))

Sunday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. and Monday – Thursday, 7:30 p.m.- 5 a.m. Milling, paving and overhead traffic signal work as part of final construction activities. Expect brief delays. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection at Route 1.

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closure between Hickory Hill Drive and Summit Crossing Road with one-way, alternating traffic. Installation of water main under permit.

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.Single lane closure between Lewis Thornburg Road and Pullen Drive with one-way, alternating traffic. Installation of roundabout under permit.

Route 620 (Harrison Road)

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Road resurfacing. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone.

Route 3 (Kings Highway)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Single lane closures between Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) and Route 3 (Blue and Gray Parkway). Fiber installation under permit.

Route 17 Southbound

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Intermittent right lane closures on southbound Route 17 between Village Parkway and Hartwood Church Road to install waterline and sewer line under permit.

Route 218 (Butler Road)

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Mobile lane closures between Route 1 and Cool Springs Road for pavement marking.

Route 607 (Cool Springs Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.Single lane closures between Route 3 Business and Route 218 (White Oak Road). Fiber installation under permit.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

Sunday – Monday, 9 p.m.- 5 a.m. Alternating lane closures at the Mine Road and Staffordboro Boulevard intersection with Route 610 for traffic signal work. Local law enforcement will assist with traffic control.

Route 654 (Banks Ford Parkway)

Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. – Noon. Alternating lane closures for pavement work between Celebrate Virginia Parkway and Route 17.

Route 1968 (Celebrate Virginia Parkway)

Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. – Noon. Alternating lane closures for pavement work near Route 17.

Westmoreland County

Route 612 (Antioch Road)
Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. Road resurfacing between Route 3 and Nomini Hall Road. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone.

Route 631 (Longfield Road)
Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. Alternating lane closures for road resurfacing between Route 205 (James Monroe Highway) and Route 205 (Ridge Road).

Route 638 (Ferry Landing Road)
Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. Road resurfacing near Route 205. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone.

Route 785 (Industrial Park Drive)
Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. Road resurfacing near Route 3. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone.

Route 799 (Poorhouse Road)
Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – Noon. Road resurfacing near Panorama Road. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone.

Additional Projects in Fredericksburg District

Caroline County

Route 638 (South River Road) Bridge Replacement

Construction is underway to replace the Route 638 (South River Road) bridge over South River. A portion of South River Road is closed with a detour in place. The project will be complete by Sept. 2025.

City of Fredericksburg

Route 1 at Fall Hill Avenue, and

Route 1 at Princess Anne Street and Hanson Avenue

Intersection improvement projects are underway on Route 1 at the intersections with Fall Hill Avenue and Princess Anne Street/Hanson Avenue. Construction will be complete by June 2026. Intermittent single lane and shoulder closures will be needed at times, but most lane closures will occur overnight, and outside of peak weekday commute times.

Lafayette Boulevard at Twin Lakes/Kensington

Construction is underway on a $2.4 million bicycle and pedestrian connector project. Most construction will occur on the road shoulders and outside of the travel lanes. The project will be complete by Nov. 2025.

Spotsylvania County

I-95 Southbound Exit 126 Off-Ramp and Route 1 Southbound

A second right turn lane is under construction from the I-95 southbound off-ramp at exit 126 onto Route 1 southbound. Route 1 southbound is being widened from the off-ramp to Southpoint Parkway with an additional turn lane. A second right turn lane is being added from Route 1 southbound to Southpoint Parkway. Traffic islands will be installed along Southpoint Parkway as a safety improvement to allow left turns into driveways but restrict through and left-turning traffic exiting from side streets. Project completion is anticipated in May 2025.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Widening

Mudd Tavern Road is being widened to four lanes between I-95 and Route 1. A new secondary access route, Route 2092, is under construction parallel to Mudd Tavern Road and will connect with South Roxbury Mill Road and Dan Bell Lane. Project completion is expected in late May 2025.

Route 620 (Harrison Road) Reconstruction and Widening

Harrison Road is being widened to four lanes between Gordon Road and Old Plank Road. The project will build a center turn lane along Harrison Road and additional through travel lanes at the Old Plank Road and Gordon Road intersections, and extend the current turn lanes at these intersections. Sidewalks will be built along Harrison Road, and pedestrian crossing signal equipment and crosswalks will be added at the Old Plank Road and Gordon Road intersections. Project completion late summer 2026.

Westmoreland County

Route 658 (Monroe Bay Circle)

Monroe Bay Circle is closed at the bridge over Monroe Creek, as construction begins to build a new bridge over Monroe Creek. Motorists are to follow the posted detour. Monroe Bay Circle will be closed until the new bridge opens in Sept. 2025.
