Centennial Broadcasting II LLC, President and CEO Allen Shaw announced Wednesday that the company has reached an agreement to acquire WGRQ-FM (95.9) and WGRX-FM (104.5) from Telemedia Broadcasting Inc. and longtime radio station owner Carl Hurlebaus.
The acquisition expands Centennial’s presence in the Fredericksburg market, positioning the broadcaster with a strong multi-station platform and enhanced capabilities for serving local listeners and advertisers, the company said.
Centennial will add the operations of WGRQ and WGRX into Centennial’s existing cluster, which includes market leader WBQB-FM and WFVA-AM. The deal is expected to close later this year, pending FCC approval.
“The addition of WGRQ-FM and WGRX-FM to our WBQB-FM and WFVA-AM platform marks an important step in Centennial’s growth strategy,” Shaw said in an announcement of the deal.
“With their strong community presence and loyal audiences, these stations present a unique opportunity to build on a rich tradition while reinforcing our commitment to the Fredericksburg market — delivering exceptional value to advertisers, engaging our listeners and serving Fredericksburg and its surrounding communities,” he said.
