Detectives from the Fredericksburg City Police Department are investigating a shooting that took place Thursday night in the 800 block of William Street.
According to a press release, about 7:54 p.m., the E-911 Center received a report of shots fired in the area, which is located near the intersection of Kenmore Avenue.
Police and EMS responded to the scene and located one shooting victim, providing on-scene medical care. During the investigation, police identified a second shooting victim. Both victims were hospitalized for treatment and are currently in stable condition.
About 8:30 p.m., the citywide alert notification system noted a high police presence and asked nearby residents to shelter in place, an order that was ultimately lifted about midnight.
Detectives are still trying to identify an “involved party,” described as a Black male wearing no shirt and gray joggers. No additional description is available at this time. Preliminary findings indicate this was an isolated incident, and that the people involved knew each other.
The investigation is ongoing, and detectives were on the scene.
