After parents expressed concerns at last month’s meeting about the type of content their students were able to access on their school-issued devices, the board will hear from Chief Operations and Technical Officer Michael George about how FCPS monitors technology usage during school hours… The division will also review its list of legislative priorities, which includes support of an additional 1% sales tax to be used for school construction.

The board is expected to award a contract for the replacement of the synthetic field turf at King George High School to Hellas Construction for its Pivot system. The cost is $809,560. Four companies submitted proposals to the county for the project. According to a memo, Hellas was the highest rated proposal, and its selection was confirmed after an interview with company officials. King George High has played football, field hockey and soccer on artificial turf since 2012.

Last month, the board of supervisors voted 4-3 to advertise 300-foot vegetated buffers and 400-foot setbacks from residential property lines for data centers. Board Chair Chris Yakabouski and fellow supervisors Lori Hayes and Jacob Lane voted against the recommendation. The matter was returned to the planning commission, which will hold a public hearing on Wednesday. The board of supervisors will report the planning commission’s recommendation at its Dec. 9 meeting.

The supervisors will hold a joint public hearing with the planning commission on grandfathering data center projects that were either approved or could be built by-right before the board approved stricter data center regulations Oct. 21. Five projects fit these criteria: the Stafford Technology Campus, Potomac Church Tech Center, Centreport Gateway/Pemberton development, the Vantage VA-4 (aka Melrod) development, and the Cranes Corner Data Center.
