The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that morning and afternoon commutes on Monday, Dec. 4, were faster than the same time last December.

Motorists are advised to be prepared for the possibility of winter weather conditions, especially during the Friday evening commute, by monitoring weather and traffic conditions.

The public is invited to attend a public hearing next week to view the proposed design to widen Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) to four lanes west of Interstate 95 in Spotsylvania County, and to add a new secondary road north of Mudd Tavern Road.

Traffic is advised to use alternative routes to avoid these areas.

Motorists should anticipate overnight delays, double lane closures and a full ramp closure on Interstate 95 northbound, southbound for multiple work zones in the Fredericksburg area.

On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20-21, 2017, Virginia troopers cited 195 speeders and 61 drivers were charged with aggressive driving or other dangerous moving violations.
