Northbound I-95 Closed in Spotsylvania

UPDATE: 12:30 p.m. from VDOT
All lanes of northbound Interstate 95 are now open in Spotsylvania County.

Motorists can expect travel delays while congestion clears. Approximately 9 miles of congestion exists on northbound I-95 approaching exit 118/Thornburg, where traffic was being detoured to Route 1 northbound.

UPDATE 11:30 a.m. from the Virginia State Police
Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police are investigating two, separate fatal shootings that occurred Tuesday morning (Sept. 22) in Caroline County and on Interstate 95 north in Spotsylvania County.

Virginia State Police and the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office will jointly hold a press briefing at noon, where more details will be released.

UPDATE 9:45 a.m.
All lanes of northbound Interstate 95 remain closed for law enforcement activity near mile marker 124 in Spotsylvania County.

Northbound I-95 traffic is being detoured at exit 118/Thornburg to Route 1 northbound. From Route 1, travelers can re-enter I-95 northbound at exit 126/Spotsylvania.

Motorists should expect significant delays in this area through midday. The interstate is estimated to remain closed for several hours.

Traffic signal timing on Route 1 has been adjusted for additional northbound traffic.

FREDERICKSBURG – (9 a.m.) Northbound Interstate 95 is closed in Spotsylvania County for law enforcement activity near mile marker 124, just before exit 126/Spotsylvania County.

Motorists should anticipate significant delays. Travelers are encouraged to use Route 1 northbound as an alternate route.
