Virginia Department of Transportation traffic hot spots for the Fredericksburg region October 4 – 10, 2015.

Travel Alert
Mobile Line Painting Operation
(New) Crews will be line painting at several locations on primary and secondary routes in Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline and Westmoreland. When approaching this mobile work zone, motorists should be alert to slow moving vehicles, expect delays, and avoid passing in the work zone. Passing in the work zone may cause tracking of the freshly painted lines, and the wet paint could adhere to your vehicle. Crews will be working during daytime and overnight hours

City of Fredericksburg
Route 1 Northbound
(New) Friday, 9 a.m. – noon; Single lane closure on Route 1 northbound near the intersection of Mary Washington Boulevard. Boring work will be underway in connection with the Fall Hill Avenue widening project.

Fall Hill Avenue
(New) Friday, 9 a.m. – noon; Single lane closure on Fall Hill Avenue at the intersection of Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard. Boring work will be underway in connection with the Fall Hill Avenue widening project.

Under Construction: Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park). The project is expected to be complete in January 2017.

Stafford County
Route 1 at Falmouth Bridge
(New) Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Motorists will be restricted to one lane in each direction on the Falmouth Bridge. Crews will be conducting a routine bridge safety inspection. The Falmouth Bridge is located on Route 1 between the Stafford County line and the Fredericksburg City limits.

Route 218 (White Oak Road)
(Update) Sunday – Tuesday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.; Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 218 eastbound and westbound between Route 603 (Cassion Road) and 606 (Ferry Road) for paving work.

Route 608 (Brooke Road)
(New) Thursday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Crews will be paving on Route 608 between Route 685 (Thorny Point Road) and Route 628 (Eskimo Hill Road). Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 656 (Greenbank Road)
(Update) Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Motorists should expect brief delays on Greenbank Road between Banks Ford Parkway and the dead end. Crews are repairing the pavement in this area.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – shoulder work
Route 17 (Warrenton Road) – brush cutting
Route 1098 (Cherry Laurel Drive) – concrete work
Route 1097 (Willow Branch Place) – pipe replacement
Route 752 (Hartwood Road) – mowing
Route 607 (Deacon Road) – mowing
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) – mowing
Route 628 (Ramoth Church Road) – mowing
Route 611 (Hope Road) – mowing
Route 641 (Onville Road) – mowing
Route 633 (Arkendale Drive) – patching

Under Construction: Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. Project completion date is December 2016.

Falmouth Intersection (Route 1/Route 17 Business/Route 218) – Project Complete
Construction at the intersection of Route 1/Route 17 Business/Route 218 at Falmouth is now complete. All lanes are open to traffic. Motorists should be alert to the new traffic patterns. Crews will be landscaping at the intersection between October 15 and December 1.

Spotsylvania County
Interstate 95 Southbound
(Update) Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. On Sunday night crews will be repairing the milled driving surface on I-95 southbound between Exit 126 (Route 1/Spotsylvania) and Exit 118 (Rt. 606/Thornburg). Beginning Monday night through Thursday night crews will resume the milling and paving operation at this location. Each night one lane will be closed at 9 p.m. and two lanes will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be performing routine maintenance that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:
Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – mowing
Route 627 (Gordon Road) – brush cutting
Route 620 (Harrison Road) – brush cutting
Route 618 (River Road) – brush cutting
Route 610 (Eleys Ford Road) – brush cutting
Route 208 (Lake Anna Parkway) – brush cutting
Route 614 (Dickerson Road) – patching
Route 709 (Alsop Road) – patching
Sheraton Hills Subdivision – brush cutting
Wilburn Farms Subdivision – brush cutting

Under Construction: Route 17/Benchmark Road/Crossroads Parkway
Motorists should expect lane closures and brief traffic stops on Route 17 at Benchmark Road and Crossroads Parkway, located just east of the CSX railroad tracks and west of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. This work is related to construction of a new Virginia Railway Express train station and parking lot. This project is being administered by Spotsylvania County.

King George County
Route 218 (White Oak Road)
(New) Sunday – Friday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.; Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 218 eastbound and westbound between Route 609 (Comorn Road) and Route 610 (Indiantown Road). Crews will be milling in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Route 218 (White Oak Road)
(New) Tuesday – Friday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.; Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 218 eastbound and westbound between the King George County line and Route 694 (Lambs Creek Church Road). Crews will be paving in this area. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Caroline County
Route 2 (Main Street)
(New) Beginning Monday motorists will be stopped intermittently on Route 2 (Main Street) in the Town of Bowling Green for film production work. Traffic may be stopped between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. each day through Wednesday, Oct. 5. On Thursday, Oct. 8 and Friday, Oct. 9 traffic stops may occur between 10 a.m. and 3 a.m.
Local law enforcement will be onsite to direct traffic. Motorists are encouraged to use Route 301 as an alternate route.

Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge Replacement
(New) Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge in Caroline County will be closed to traffic. Crews will be replacing the existing structure. During construction traffic will be detoured around the project site. Motorists should follow the posted detour signs. The project is expected to be complete in approximately eight weeks.
