The City of Fredericksburg and Fredericksburg Main Street are inviting area residents and business owners to share their input through a new survey focused on downtown street closures for events.
In a joint press release, they wrote that the survey builds upon a 2018 study that examined how temporary street closures impact downtown businesses, traffic flow, and overall community experience. With the continued growth of downtown events and increased visitation in recent years, the city and Main Street are seeking updated feedback to ensure that future decisions reflect the community’s current needs and priorities.

“Downtown Fredericksburg is the heart of our community — where area residents, businesses, and visitors come together,” Fredericksburg Main Street Executive Director Chris Allen said in the release. “As we plan for the future, we want to strike the right balance between creating vibrant, people-focused experiences and maintaining accessibility for our businesses and residents. This survey gives everyone a voice in shaping how downtown events look and feel moving forward.”
The survey asks participants to share their perspectives on event street closures, pedestrian experiences, and how these decisions affect downtown commerce and quality of life. Responses will help guide recommendations for the city’s future event planning and community engagement strategies.
“Fredericksburg is a regional destination for events and cultural experiences,” Fredericksburg City Manager Tim Baroody said. “We want to ensure that our approach to downtown street use continues to reflect what’s best for the community as a whole: supporting our local economy, encouraging civic pride, and keeping our historic downtown accessible and welcoming for all.”
The survey is open to all members of the region and will remain available through Oct. 24. Participants can access it online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/StreetClosureSurvey or via Fredericksburg Main Street’s social media channels.
