Construction to improve the Interstate 95 interchange at Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) will close the southbound on-ramp from Route 1 overnight this week, the Virginia Department of Transportation said.

Starting Monday through Wednesday, the I-95 southbound on-ramp at Exit 126 will be closed overnight from 10 p.m.-4 a.m. Route 1 travelers seeking southbound I-95 will be detoured to northbound I-95 and use the Exit 130 (Route 3) loop ramps to merge onto the southbound lanes.

The I-95 southbound off-ramp at Exit 126 will remain open.

A $42 million project to improve the Exit 126 interchange is underway. It will:

  • Add an I-95 northbound auxiliary lane near Exit 126;
  • Widen Route 1 to add a second left-turn lane onto I-95 northbound and southbound;
  • Widen the I-95 on-ramps at the intersection;
  • Build two noise barriers along I-95 southbound.

Work will be complete in September 2027.
