by | Oct 1, 2025 | BizBeat

  • A data center campus with about 2 million square feet of buildings is proposed in Thornburg. The Thornburg Business Park project would be located on about 200 acres just east of U.S. 1 and south of Morris Road. The proposed project, which requires a rezoning, continues the trend of significant data centers proposed in the region. It’s also part of the increased development activity in the Thornburg area, which includes the Kalahari Resorts project across U.S. 1 from the proposed data center campus and the Thornburg Commerce Park project just north of the Kalahari site. Significant road work has also been occurring in the area to increase capacity.
  • Sam McKelvey, who served as president and CEO of the Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) for the past two years, left the organization at the end of last week. Clarissa Sanders, who currently serves as FAM’s director of interpretation and programs, will serve as acting president while the Board of Directors conducts a national search for new leadership.
  • The building that houses the Cowboy Jack’s restaurant at 2312 Plank Road in Fredericksburg has been sold, and a new restaurant will occupy the space, according to a news release from Coldwell Banker Commercial Elite (which helped broker the building sale). The 6,158-square-foot building sold for $1.55 million. No further information was available on when Cowboy’s Jack’s will close or what new restaurant will lease the space.
  • This Lake Anna home, which sold this past week for $1.41 million, topped the list of weekly home sales in the region.

There were 108 homes sold in the past week in the Fredericksburg area, according to the Fredericksburg Area Association of Realtors, including three for more than $1 million. Check back weekly for the new list.

  • Kickshaws Gluten-free Bakery is moving later this month from Central Park to the Spotsylvania Crossing shopping center next to the At Home store at 3655 Plank Road.
  • One data center requires as much power as Rappahannock Electric Cooperative’s (REC) entire current customer base, REC President and CEO John Hewa told the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors last week.
  • A rezoning has been requested to allow a machinery sales and service facility on 9.51 acres at the intersection of Wyche Road and Venture Drive in Stafford. The land is cleared and under use with existing buildings, and the rezoning would allow for an expansion for James River Equipment.
  • A conditional use permit has been requested to allow a comprehensive sign package on the 28-acre planned Courthouse West development on the south side of Courthouse Road between Austin Ridge Drive and Interstate 95 in Stafford.
