Mary Washington Healthcare launches postpartum safety bracelet program

Mary Washington Healthcare has launched a new postpartum safety initiative aimed at improving awareness and prevention of serious complications after childbirth.

Through the Post Birth Alert Bracelet program, new mothers receive a red silicone bracelet reading “I gave birth” upon discharge, alerting healthcare providers to recent delivery. The bracelet is designed to prompt heightened awareness for postpartum risks such as hemorrhage, preeclampsia, infection, blood clots, and cardiac issues, particularly when patients seek care outside obstetric settings.

Mary Washington Health officials say the program helps bridge communication gaps across departments and care settings.
