Help Tree Fredericksburg Plant in April

What could be more rewarding than spending a few hours planting trees?  Come plant trees with Tree Fredericksburg, learn new planting techniques and meet like-minded people in the community.
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, and Saturday, April 26.
Meet at the corner of Caroline and Germania Streets, directly across from the entrance to Old Mill Park, 2410 Caroline St., Fredericksburg.  We usually finish by 11 a.m., and you can plant even for an hour with us -– every effort helps.

Friends of the Rappahannock held their annual spring river clean-up on April 26.  Volunteers of all ages met in Old Mill Park for their assignments, then dispersed to clean trash from the Rappahannock River and nearby lands and streams.  Friends of the Rappahannock provided supplies and lunch.

So Very Thankful

Last week, I had the pleasure to work with a local Veteran non-profit group to help someone in need. Their story touched my heart. He was injured by an IED while serving in the Army in Afghanistan. After being injured, the family made a quick move into our area to be near the Richmond VA Hospital, to get help for his severe brain trauma.

A sea of 15,300 luminaria glowed in Fredericksburg National Cemetery from 8 – 11 p.m. May 24 for the 19th annual Memorial Day Saturday ceremony.
The tradition began in 1995, when representatives of local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts presented to National Park Service staff the idea of starting an annual luminaria program to honor United States soldiers who had died in service to their county.

Girl Helps Food Bank with Lemondade Stand Earnings

The Fredericksburg Area Food Bank relies on donations.  On August 5, Sarah Rosenbaum donated 48 pounds of food to the local nonprofit.  What made this donation special was that Sarah raised the money to purchase the food — $61 — at a lemonade stand.
From 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank is sponsoring a Food-4-Families Stock the School Pantry Food Drive.  The food drive will take place at Celebrate Virginia Giant Food, 550 Celebrate Virginia Pkwy., Fredericksburg.
