Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is warning its members of scammers who have been calling to demand immediate payment for services.
“The scammers claim that electric service will be disconnected unless the bill is paid immediately,” said Maxie Rozell, REC’s manager of safety, security and risk management. “In addition, some have claimed there is a problem with the electric meter that could result in a fire if payment for replacement is not made immediately.”

Recently, I listened to a very wise man speak about Self Management vs. Time Management. My first thought was that this was a very odd topic for a minister. I was amazed at what he shared, and how he shared it, and I feel the need to share his insights with you. The concept is that we don’t need to learn better time management. Rather, we need to learn better self-management.

Ryan Bullock, owner of The Orion Sushi Bar & Ultra Lounge, announced on Facebook he has closed his restaurant as of Saturday, July 19, 2014.

Capital Ale House Fredericksburg Sous Chef Sean Patrick Duffie has his recipe ready for the July 31 FXBG Sandwich Invitational, but the sandwich doesn’t yet have a name. He’s open to suggestions.
The sandwich is a play on the restaurant’s successful Salmon and lox combination, Duffie said. “I wanted to make a nice, lite, colorful summer sandwich,” he said.

Suzanne Metzger had been working as a senior business analyst at Geico in Stafford for 15 years and was ready for a change when an opportunity presented itself. The owner of Heritage Gifts and Imports was selling. Metzger bought the store’s inventory and changed the name to Pappagallo Fine Gifts and Imports. Fredericksburg’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) pledged $65,000 toward the creation of a coworking office space downtown.
The pledge followed a presentation by Matt Armstrong, president of FredXchange, the nonprofit group that for the last year has spearheaded a initiative to bring a coworking space to the region.

Diamond Nation is asking the City of Fredericksburg to contribute $18 million more towards building a stadium complex to host the Hagerstown Suns and provide space for amateur baseball and softball camps and tournaments.
The total cost of the project originally had been estimated at about $25 – $30 million.
City Manager Bev Cameron made the announcement in an update to City Council during their August 12 meeting.
Registration is open through Wednesday, Aug. 20, for the Community Welcome Fair at the University of Mary Washington (UMW).
The event gives local businesses and non-profits an opportunity to introduce their goods and services to more than 1,200 potential new customers, according to the Fredericksburg Department of Economic Development and Tourism, event sponsor.

Fredericksburg’s retail vacancy rate dropped to 6.2 percent in the three months ending June 30, 2014, according to Fredericksburg’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism. It was 7.7 percent for the same period in 2013.
Retail sales tax revenues dropped 1.8 percent and lodging tax revenues dropped 1.3 percent over the same period last year. Meals tax revenue was up 1.4 percent.
